I'm Kate, a BACP-registered psychodynamic counsellor offering online and telephone counselling for young people and adults.

People come to counselling for many reasons, including anxiety, trauma, bereavement, low mood, relationship difficulties, life changes, or a sense that something isn't quite working. My role is to help you make sense of your experiences, understand yourself more deeply, and find a way forward that feels right for you.

My approach is relational and client-led. I believe meaningful change grows from feeling genuinely understood, and I work alongside each person at a pace that suits their individual needs.

I have over 14 years' experience working in secondary schools in Harpenden and St Albans and continue to work in educational settings alongside my private practice. This gives me an up-to-date understanding of the challenges facing young people, families and school staff, as well as current safeguarding practice. Supporting students and staff remains a central part of my professional life and continues to shape the work I do today.

Alongside my professional training, I bring lived experience of ADHD, autism and the LGBTQIA+ community. These experiences inform my understanding while never defining how I see another person's story. Every individual brings their own experiences, strengths and challenges, and I approach each client with curiosity rather than assumptions.

I have extensive experience working with neurodivergent clients and LGBTQIA+ individuals, and I understand how important it is to work in a way that respects and responds to each person's unique identity and needs.

I also have considerable experience working with twins, both professionally and as a parent of twins. This has given me a deeper understanding of the unique dynamics, connections and challenges that can arise within twin relationships and family life.

Alongside my work in schools, I have worked in secure adult institutional settings. This experience has deepened my understanding of trauma, resilience and the lasting impact of difficult life experiences.

After many years of supporting people in different settings, I trained as a psychodynamic counsellor. Psychodynamic counselling explores how past experiences and relationships can shape thoughts, feelings and behaviours in the present. Developing this understanding can help create lasting change, greater self-awareness and new ways of relating to yourself and others.

I have extensive experience supporting people affected by trauma and am trained in Rewind Therapy. Rewind can be integrated into ongoing counselling or offered as a brief, focused intervention. It typically takes two or three sessions and may help reduce PTSD symptoms and distress following traumatic experiences. You do not need to describe the trauma in detail for the approach to be effective.

Finding the right counsellor can feel daunting, whether you are seeking support for yourself or your child. I offer a free 15-minute online or telephone consultation so we can discuss what you are looking for and whether working together feels like the right fit.

I am a registered member of the BACP and work in accordance with its Ethical Framework.
